Seaside sauna approved for Lulworth beach
It'll be run by the same company that has another in Poole
Lulworth is to be the latest Dorset beach to have a seaside sauna.
The Weld Estate has been given a three-year permission to set up the beach-side sauna after demolishing a shed used as a fishing store.
The sauna would be run year-round by The Saltwater Sauna which has been operating in Poole since 2021.
The proposed opening hours are from 6.30am throughout the year until 5.00pm from September to March; until 7.30pm April to June and two sessions in July and August, until 11.30am and then 5.30pm until 10.30pm.
Electricity will be provided on-site by a solar photovoltaic (PV) panel mounted to the roof and the sauna itself will be fuelled by a wood burner.
The building will have will a separate hot room and changing area in addition to a staff office.
Public opinion has been divided between those who welcome the addition to area’s tourism attractions and those who say it will be out of place.
The parish council objected to the site chosen, although not to having a sauna in the cove.
It said it was concerned about the stability of land behind the structure and whether a proposed wall would be sufficient protection.
