Police arrest 'repeat shoplifter' for breaching bail conditions
They've remanded a man spotted breaching his bail conditions by being outside the Marks and Spencers in Weymouth
Police in Weymouth say they're continuing to tackle the issue of shoplifting.
On social media, they've remanded a man spotted breaching his bail conditions by being outside the Marks and Spencers in Weymouth.
This year alone, they've issued four Community Protection Warnings and two Community Protection Notices.
They said: "Officers on patrol were made aware that one of our repeat shoplifters was breaching his bail conditions by being outside Marks and Spencer’s in town. Our team had nearby and quickly detained him, a quick check confirmed that he was breaching his court bail and he was swiftly arrested and remanded. He will be put before the court at the earliest opportunity to explain his behaviour. We continue to target repeat shoplifters that we know are impacting our businesses in Weymouth.
"Our colleagues with Dorset Council have also assisted us in serving a Community Protection Warning (Legislated under the Anti-social behaviour, Crime and Policing Act) on an individual identified as being a persistent nuisance in the community through they’re street drinking around Custom House Quay. CPW’s lay out a series of conditions that the recipient must abide by, if “breached” they can find themselves escalated to a full community protection notice, which carries a power of arrest and may ultimately lead to criminal behaviour orders.
"We have issued four CPW’s and two CPN’s alone this year – the response from the recipient is largely positive and has encouraged engagement with support services whilst reducing ASB incidents and offending."
