A new scheme to reach Dorset's unpaid carers is being trialled in Puddletown Surgery.

Carer Support are running it's first ever Carers Clinic there later this month on 21st January.

If successful, the scheme could be rolled out to other GP surgeries across the county.

Unpaid carers who are currently registered with the surgery will be able to book a 30-minute slot with one of Carer Support Dorset’s Carer Advisers to discuss any issues or concerns that they have about their caring role.

This could be in relation to finances, their own health and wellbeing or for more information on the condition of the person they care for. It is hoped that these clinics would then return later in the year.

Anna Elston, Manager, Carer Support Dorset said:

“We are delighted to be able to offer these clinics for carers at Puddletown Surgery. Unpaid carers can often struggle to access support and by working with Puddletown Surgery, it is hoped that the unpaid carers based in this area will be encouraged to seek help or advice regarding their caring roles.”

The scheme is thought to be the first of its kind and continues Carer Support Dorset's work to reach unpaid carers. Many have felt isolated by the pandemic, and have been unable to reach out for in-person support out of fear over coronavirus.

Kate Trevett, Care Co-ordinator and Social Prescribing Lead, Puddletown Surgery adds:

“We have over 200 unpaid carers that are known to us at Puddletown Surgery. By running this clinic, we are pleased to be able to give carers the opportunity to seek further support in their caring role.”
