New Year Honours list recognises Dorset heroes

A number of people from across the county have been named

People in Dorset have been recognised in the New Years Honours.

It's the first list that's been published since King Charles came to the throne.

They include Janet Thurgood from Poole, who's been awarded an MBE for services to people with learning disabilities.

Mary Buck from Swanage has been given a British Empire Medal for services to the NHS and to the community - particularly during Covid-19.

So has HMP The Verne Prison Officer Janette Radford - she's received her honour for services to prisoners and Age UK.

And Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service's Derek James, the area's Deputy Chief Officer, has been given the King's Fire Service Medal.
