500 new homes are to be built in Littlemoor, after getting the go-ahead from Dorset Council.

The development will be on land to the north of Littlemoor Road in Weymouth, with some space set aside for shops, business units including a possible hotel, school, play areas and open spaces.

Affordable homes will make up 35% of the site, and construction work's expected to take eight years to complete.

Dorset councillors unanimously agreed the final details of the housing yesterday (Thursday 13th October) – including road layouts, landscaping and house styles.

Outline planning consent for the site was granted back in 2020.

But some local councillors expressed some concerns, on aspects like road access and pedestrian crossings.

They also described the plans as 'an inevitability', voting for it despite having initial objections.

23,000 trees will also be planted as part of the development around the site.
