A man's been jailed for attempted robbery in connection with an offence in Bournemouth.
28 year old Volkan Cara Ertas, of no fixed abode, has been sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court to four years and four months.
He's also been given a restraining order, preventing him from contacting his victim for 10 years.
Ertas targeted a teenager, who was 17 years old when the incident happened in January 2022, who had advertised unofficial taxi services and lifts in the Bournemouth and Poole area over Facebook.
The defendant contacted him using a false name and arranged to be picked up from a location in the Wallisdown area.
After directing the victim to two locations in the Bournemouth area, Ertas told him to head back to Wallisdown to discuss the fare owed.
He asked for bank details and said his cousin had deposited £200 into his account - telling the victim £30 was for the fare and the rest needed to be withdrawn from the account to be given to him.
The driver questioned that, causing Ertas to become angry and claim to have a knife.
He told the victim to withdraw the money, and an attempt was made, but it didn't go through - so he said he'd get a friend to help.
They arrived and confronted Ertas, who then fled the scene.
CCTV and dashcam footage was used by Dorset Police officers to identify him.
Detective Constable Christian Bryant, of Dorset Police’s Priority Crime Team, said:
“This was an extremely frightening incident for the young victim in this case and I am pleased that through our investigative work we were able to identify the offender responsible and bring him before the court.”
