Essential maintenance work will be carried out at Greenhill beach in Weymouth from today (Monday 16th January).

Dorset Council say it'll take a week to complete, but does mean the section along Greenhill Gardens, from the Seascape Café to the Beach Café, at the end of Brunswick Terrace, will be closed to the public.

That's to allow heavy machinery to operate safely.

The promenade won't be affected though.

Dorset Council say the work's necessary to make sure the waves don't erode the foundations of the sea wall.

Cllr Ray Bryan, Dorset Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment, Travel and Environment, said:

“We know that local people and visitors value and use the promenade for lots of different reasons, which is why it’s important we carry out regular maintenance to ensure it stays in good condition.

"Despite the inclement weather we’re having this month, this area continues to see high footfall and we’re grateful for people’s understanding while we undertake this work.”
