A new documentary about two LGBTQ+ mermaids from Dorset arrives on our screens tonight.

From Together TV, the It follows locals Kaia and Caitriona as they dress head-to-tail in fabulous outfits and attend mermaid relay races around the country.

Special mermaid conventions will also be covered which viewers have been told contain the most fabulous of costumes.

We're told this BAFTA award winning programme will explore the mermaids' queer identities as well as their relationships with other county residents.

The filmmaker behind this project Anna Mouzouri said: "I hope that audiences will watch my film and, number one, be like, mermaids are hardcore.

"I hope they also take away, especially LGBTQ+ people who are in small towns, that there's a community out there for you.

"Found family is really important for queer people. If there's no one around, you can feel like you're never going find that.

"But anything you're passionate about, you can find.

"I also hope that people who aren't LGBTQ+, or don't know any LGBTQ+ people, watch this film, and fall in love with the two mermaids before learning they’re LGBTQ+ and still be in love with them."

You can watch the documentary tonight at 10:30pm on Together TV - Freeview 83, Sky 170, Virgin 269, Freesat 164.

The programme will be then available to watch on the Together TV streaming service.
