Restrictions have been placed on the movement of poultry in Bournemouth after an outbreak of bird flu.

Testing is taking place at a property in Castlemain Avenue in Southbourne to prevent the spread of the disease.

Avian Influenza mostly spreads among birds and in rare cases can affect people.

A 3 km temporary control zone has been put in place.

Officials will be knocking on doors in the zone from Saturday to check for potential further cases.

Peter Haikin, regulatory services manager at BCP Council, said: "Avian Influenza predominantly affects only birds and is not considered to be an illness which poses a risk to the general public".

All bird keepers are equired by law to undergo certain biosecurity procedures following an outbreak of Avian Flu being declared to help prevent further spread.
