Thousands of pounds has been handed over to Dorset County Hospital's charity, from the Great Dorset Steam Fair.

Trailer rides at the popular event at Tarrant Hinton, held over the August Bank Holiday, have brought in £21,357 for the DCH charity's Greatest Need Appeal.

That'll go towards services and equipment at the Dorchester site, over and above what the NHS can provide.

Martin Oliver, GDSF Managing Director said:

“The Great Dorset Steam Fair has always been committed to supporting our local communities and this year we are honored to raise funds for The Greatest Need Appeal at Dorset County Hospital which serves our community so well. We hope very much that the money raised will help to support patients in their time of need.”

More than 12,000 passengers went on the trailer rides at the Fair this year, with volunteers keeping it running 12 hours a day, for the four days of the event.

Nick Johnson, Chief Executive at Dorset County Hospital said:

“Thank you for the incredible donation raised through the Charity Trailer Rides at this year’s Great Dorset Steam Fair. The Greatest Need Appeal will make a real difference to our patients and the staff who care for them at Dorset County Hospital. We are so grateful to everyone who supported the hospital and enjoyed their time at the Steam Fair.”

Simon Pearson, Head of Charity at Dorset County Hospital said:

“This is an extraordinary level of support for our hospital, reflecting the incredible commitment of all involved for which we are extremely grateful.”

The Great Dorset Steam Fair won't be going ahead in 2023, with organisers blaming the cost-of-living crisis for making their financial position more difficult.
