Flood warnings issued for Dorset

The Environment Agency has put out the warnings

There are warnings from the Environment Agency to expect flooding in a few locations along the Dorset coast, particularly at high tide this evening (Tuesday 8th November).

One of the warnings is for the area around Preston Beach in Weymouth.

We're told water levels are higher than normal due to a spring tide, a tidal surge, strong winds and large waves.

Flooding is expected in the Preston Beach Road and Sea Life Centre area, with high tide at 6.43pm today.

The warning affects the two hours either side of high tide as well.

The Environment Agency's said:

"Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous."

The areas in red here are where flood warnings are in place, with flood alerts for the areas marked orange

A similar warning's in place for West Bay Harbour - that includes the Esplanade, Quayside, Forty Foot Way, Driftwood, George Street, Swains Row, The Old Timberyard, Station Way, Pier Terrace and East Beach there.

High tide there is at 6.25pm tonight, with water levels expected to be high.

We're told the greatest risk is at the inner harbour, East Beach and the Esplanade.

A less serious flood alert is also in effect for the east coast of Dorset generally.

That includes the Castletown, Weymouth, Preston Beach, Swanage Bay, Studland Bay, Sandbanks, Poole Harbour, Bournemouth Beach, Hengistbury Head and Christchurch Harbour areas.

A couple of flood warnings have also been removed today (as of 11.40am, Tuesday 8th November).

The Environment Agency thinks the risk of flooding at Poole and the west coast of Dorset - including Lyme Regis, Bothenhampton, Burton Bradstock, and Chesil Beach - has subsided.
