First time buyers homes under construction in Verwood

It's the first scheme of its kind in the Dorset Council area

Nineteen new homes are being built in Verwood, specifically for first time buyers struggling to get onto the property ladder.

The Potters Wood development is the first of its kind in the Dorset Council area.

The homes are being made available at 30% of market value, and resold at the same discounted rate, to keep them affordable in the long-term.

That means a 3 bedroom home can cost no more than £250,000.

Councillor Gill Taylor, Cabinet Member for Health and Housing at Dorset Council said:

“This is the first of what we hope will be many more First Homes initiatives in Dorset.

"We hope it will pave the way for similar schemes across the Dorset Council area.

"I would urge any local residents, including essential workers, who can afford to make this kind of financial commitment to express an interest. There are benefits too for the wider Verwood community, by retaining a skilled local workforce who can live in the area.”

The homes are being built by developers Pennyfarthing, who are taking applications for residents directly.

They'll then be passed to Dorset Council, with a priority given to local working people.
