Fire station appeal after crew unable to attend 999 call
The station in Wareham did not have enough firefighters
A Dorset fire station has revealed it was unable to attend a call out because of a lack of staff.
Wareham said it had to pass the incident to colleagues in Poole on Wednesday.
Crews have taken to their Facebook page to call for more retained firefighters.
On-call firefighters are paid professionals who do the same work as their wholetime colleagues.
They are not based at the fire station but have other jobs and commitments, responding to emergencies only when their alerter goes off.
Around two thirds of the firefighters in Dorset and Wiltshire work on an on-call basis, according to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.
