Fire crews are treating a blaze which broke out in Turbary Common as 'deliberate'.

Investigations are continuing into the incident, which emergency services were alerted to at 11.40pm last night (29 July).

In a statement, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue added: "We were called to Turbary Common at 11.40pm last night (29 July) for a fire affecting approx. 100m x 100m of heath.

"We sent crews from Redhill Park, Verwood, Poole and Christchurch, together with small 4x4 appliances from Poole and Wimborne, and a water carrier from Poole.

"With hose reel jets used to extinguish the fire, the fire was surrounded by 12.45am and the stop came in at 2.27am, shortly before we left the scene.

"Because of the peat soil, there were a number of hotspots that were dealt with during a reinspection at around 7am.

"The incident was logged with the police as we believe it to have been started deliberately."
