Elf world-record attempt in Weymouth today
Today's Christmas lights illumination is attempting to make history.
Christmas lights are being turned on across the county today, but one event in particular's seeking to go down in the record books.
There's going to be an attempt to break the record for the number of Christmas elves gathered in one place at Weymouth's event.
They need 2,000 people in the town centre in fancy dress.
We're being encouraged to dress up as best we can as elves, whether it's full elf attire, or just a point hat.
Pippa Gibb from We Are Weymouth said:
"The more the merrier, cute baby elves are a massive plus but also grown up elves in full costume would be fab.
"We appreciate that it's chilly so if people just want to wear elf hats that's brilliant too, we just want to see as many elves as we can in the town centre."
The event is designed to help support local businesses in the lead up to Christmas, and encourage us to shop on the high street.
Pippa added:
"Weymouth has got such a great mix of independents and multiples that it's really just worth popping in and having a wander round, especially if you're feeling a bit uninspired with what to buy people this year.
"There's something for everyone on offer in Weymouth and it's worth going and having a good root around."
Other attractions this weekend in Weymouth include:
Lights illumination in the town centre
Elf trail at the Palm House Café
'Elf' showing at Cineworld
The elf record attempt will take place at 4pm in the town centre as the lights are switched on.
