A man has been jailed following a fatal crash in Poole.
20-year-old Lewis Clarke from Poole, appeared at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday 13 January 2023.
He pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison.
Clark was disqualified from driving for four years and ten months.
At around 9.45pm on Sunday 12 December 2021, a collision occurred on the eastbound carriageway of the A3049 Canford Way involving a car and a female pedestrian.
Very sadly, the pedestrian – a 23-year-old woman from Poole – was pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicle involved, which was a black Ford Fiesta, was being driven by the defendant.
All occupants of the Ford fled the scene after the incident.
A witness described seeing the vehicle drive at excessive speed shortly before the collision.
Following detailed fast-time enquiries by officers, Clark was arrested in connection with the incident in the early hours of Monday 13 December 2021.
He later admitted to being the driver of the car at the time of the collision.
Police Sergeant Jay Griffin, of the traffic unit, said: “The reckless and dangerous driving of Lewis Clark very sadly resulted in the death of a young woman and our thoughts continue to remain with her loved ones.
“This case was the subject of a detailed investigation and I am pleased that Clark is now facing the consequences of his actions.
“There is no excuse for driving dangerously and at excessive speed. We will take action on motorists who are not driving safely and within the law.”
