Strike action by the Royal College of Nursing in Dorset this week means some Minor Injuries Units (MIUs) will have to close.

Walkouts are taking place tomorrow (Wednesday 18th) and Thursday (19th January) in a row over pay.

Dorset HealthCare say they'll be prioritising services at Bridport and Wimborne MIUs, as well as the Urgent Treatment Centre at Weymouth.

Sites at Blandford, Shaftesbury, Sherborne and Swanage will be closed for those two days.

Sherborne's MIU is among those that will be closed during this week's strikes

We're told that's been arranged with the RCN, to 'ensure patient safety and safe staffing levels'.

Jane Elson, Service Director for Integrated Community Services, said:

“While we will be unable to offer a full service over the strike days, consolidating our staff at three locations will allow us to provide a consistent, reliable offer to anyone who needs urgent treatment.”

Anyone who needs urgent care for injury or illness is encouraged to call NHS 111 or go to their website |newtab) for an assessment in the first instance.

If appropriate, appointments will be arranged at an MIU or the UTC.

If it's a life-threatening emergency, you can still call 999 during the industrial action, as emergency care will continue to be available.
