Dorset councils and PCC ask for bigger fines for fly-tipping and poor parking

They think it could be the answer to solving issues

Dorset Council, BCP Council and the county's Police and Crime Commissioner would like to see bigger fines in the county, to tackle fly-tipping and anti-social parking.

They've approached the Government to call for higher penalties, especially in areas close to beaches, which are blighted with problems each summer.

Concerns have been raised about poor parking on double yellow lines, on roundabouts and verges and even blocking residential driveways.

It's thought the current fines aren't enough of a deterrent, as when split between a car load of people, the cost is around the same as a proper parking space.

Fly-tipping fines have been described as 'only around the cost of hiring a skip'.

The Government has responded to the request for increases - saying the rates are 'fixed nationally, with no scope for higher fines in specific areas'.
