Hundreds of new homes could be built near Wimborne.

Plans have gone on show for the first phase of a development at Merley - north of Oakley Lane, with a public consultation now underway.

Cala Homes wants to build 550 properties - 40% of them affordable - and a 62-bed care home.

The principle of building homes on the site has already been approved by BCP Council, despite local opposition.

The developers say the estate will deliver a range of benefits in addition to the new homes, including a new area of open space, a Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG), associated landscaping, and car parks.

Zahra Waters, Planning Manager at Cala said:

“There is an acute housing shortage in Dorset, and we’re delighted to share our vision for delivering sustainable high-quality new homes that will help address this challenge for people in Merley.

“We’re committed to engaging with the local community to hear their views on our proposals for this first phase of development at this key strategic development site. The feedback people give will help us bring about a high-quality neighbourhood and deliver value to the local area.”

A dedicated website, including the ability to offer feedback, has been set up for us to see the plans.
