Developer to appeal Portland waste incinerator refusal
Powerfuel has informed Dorset Council that they intend to appeal
The developers behind plans for an Energy Recovery Facility at Portland Port have told Dorset Council that they intend to appeal after being refused planning permission.
Powerfuel had their scheme rejected by the local authority back in March.
At the time, they said they would lodge an appeal in the future - and they've now informed Dorset Council that it'll be submitted around mid-August.
The incinerator was initially refused as the planning committee raised concerns about the visual impact, pollution and increased lorry traffic.
That came amid protests by local people voicing similar worries.
Who would decide an appeal?
Dorset Council say appeals against refusals of planning permission are submitted to the Secretary of State, and nearly all are decided by the Planning Inspectorate.
Once an appeal is formally lodged, the Planning Inspectorate will contact Dorset Council with further details about how it will be conducted.
Within one week, the authority then has to notify interested parties, including anyone who submitted representations to the original application, that an appeal has been lodged with the Planning Inspectorate, including details of how to get involved.
