Detectives investigating 'nasty' Bournemouth assault make TV appeal on Crimewatch

The victim was attacked by a group of men and knocked unconscious

Detectives investigating an attack in Bournemouth where a man was hit with a gas canister have made a TV appeal.

Enquiries remain ongoing into an incident that happened at around 11.30pm on Saturday 8 October 2022 in Commercial Road.

Detectives from Bournemouth CID have taken part in an appeal on Crimewatch Live this morning.

On the night of the incident the victim, a man aged in his 40s, became involved in an altercation with a group of around six men.

He went to walk away and was then chased by one of the men and struck from behind with what was believed to be a gas cannister.

The victim sustained a laceration to the top of the head as well as further cuts and bruises from when he fell to the ground as he was knocked unconscious.

Detective Constable Cameron Carter, of Bournemouth CID, appeared on the Crimewatch Live show to make the televised appeal.

He said: “This was a nasty assault that left the victim with serious injuries, and we owe it to them to explore all lines of enquiry that are available to us.

“We have obtained CCTV images of a man we are keen to identify as part of our investigation and these were broadcast to a national television audience as part of our appeal.

“I would continue to urge anyone with information as to this man’s identity, or anybody with further information relating to this violent attack, to please come forward and contact us.”
