Cyclist spat at by driver in Ferndown

It happened after a car tried to overtake the ride on the A31

A cyclist has been spat at by a driver in a road rage incident on the A31 at Ferndown.

Dorset Police tell us a man in his 20s was riding towards Ringwood at around 4.45pm on Wednesday last week (29th March), as he got close to a temporary lane closure.

A green or grey Volvo approached from behind at speed and braked heavily, sounding his horn at the cyclist.

The rider approached the driver, by cycled away.

A collision then occurred near to the Sainsbury's Petrol Station, with the Volvo and the cyclist involved.

The driver got out and spat at the rider, before leaving the area.

The cyclist wasn't seriously injured.

A description's been released of the Volvo driver - they're thought to be:

  • Five feet nine inches tall
  • Average build
  • Dark messy hair
  • Wearing a navy blue bomber jacket

PC William Saunders, of East Dorset police, said:

“I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage, to please come forward.

“I would also like to ask the driver of the Volvo to please come forward so we can take your account of what happened.”
