An historic cricket club in Dorset is under threat after neighbours complained of balls causing damage and landing in their back gardens.
Colehill Cricket Club near Wimborne has been told it can no longer play adult cricket at Colehill Sports and Social Club in Wimborne Road.
More than 17,500 people have signed a petition urging Colehill Sports and Social Club committee to reverse its decision.
The cricket club said it would be too expensive to put up nets around the ground.
A spokesperson for the cricket club said: "We understand risk exists when cricket is played but believe a more pragmatic approach could be taken to resolve the dispute.
"We believe the decision to ban adult cricket is not a proportionate response to the risk involved.
"We do not believe the community interest and history of cricket in the village has been taken into account properly and hope this petition will demonstrate its value to the local community.
Colehill Sports and Social Club has been contacted for a response.
