Weldmar Hospicecare are inviting people from across Dorset to dedicate a Christmas tree light or wooden star ornament to a lost loved one.

The charity is putting up trees in various locations across the county for their special Light Up A Life services.

These will take place in Bridport, Wareham, Blandford, Dorchester, Sherborne, Gillingham and Lyme Regis.

All of these tree locations will also accompany a short remembrance service - which will include hymns, readings, and some reflection time.

A service will also be taking place online for people who cannot attend in-person.

The charity is asking for a small donation from the public for putting this together which can be done through their website or given directly to the hospicecare staff on the night of the event.

Gloria McCartney is the Fundraising Lead at Weldmar Hospicecare.

She told us: "I think over the last few years we've all been through quite a lot, we've all experienced bereavement and particularly at this time of year it can be very difficult for people.

"So, I hope that people can take this opportunity this year and come together.

"It's such a special appeal which really involves the whole community and I think whether you've lost someone at Weldmar or not, it doesn't matter.

"We have dedications to friends, family, work colleagues, pets and even dedications in memory of the Queen this year, so it really is open to anyone and everyone to get involved and remember someone."
