Christmas Dinner menu at HMP The Verne revealed
Turkey wasn't on the menu for prisoners at Portland's The Verne
The full Christmas Day menu for prisoners at HMP The Verne has been revealed - and turkey wasn't on offer.
HMP The Verne is a prison exclusively for sex offenders.
The full day's meals cost £5.93 per head, which included breakfast, lunch and dinner.
While you were eating your turkey roast prisoners were given the option between Chicken Breast, Vegan Wellington and Salmon in Dill Sauce.
The breakfast menu included scrambled egg, sausage, bacon, and fried bread.
There were also options for dessert at midday and evening meals and inmates had a choice of Christmas Pudding, Banana and Custard. Christmas Cake was on offer in the evening.
In previous years 'reformed turkey' has been on the menu, although this has been replaced by chicken breast since 2020.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice told Greatest Hits Radio:
"Meals in prisons over Christmas and New Year are paid for from within the existing budget and at no extra cost to the taxpayer.
"In line with the new increased financial responsibilities Governors now have, and within the overall prison budget, what is actually spent on food for prisoners per day, including meals for religious occasions, is a decision made locally."
