'Their son will forever be 16' - tributes to teenager who died in Bath on Saturday night
Thousands of pounds have been raised in his memory - just days after the tragic incident in Bath on Saturday night
More than £10,000 has now been raised in memory of a 16-year-old boy who died in Bath over the weekend.
Mikey Roynon, from Kingswood, couldn't be saved during the incident on Saturday night (June 10), with a post-mortem of his body concluding that he died from a single stab wound.
As of Monday night (12 June), Avon and Somerset Police confirmed two boys aged 15 and 16 from Wiltshire and a 15 year old boy from Dorset remain in police custody and continue to be questioned by detectives
Eight teenagers, who were arrested within 30 minutes of the incident from a bus on Lansdown Lane, have since been released from custody with no further action taken against them.
Dozens of people have been paying tribute to Mikey - otherwise known as the up-and-coming rapper 'YM' - with people calling him 'such a lovely boy' and the community described as being 'in shock' following the incident.
A vigil has also been held in his memory, with hundreds of people gathering at a park in Kingswood.
Posting on a fundraising page to collect vital funds towards his funeral, cousin Chelsi Cridland said: "As you can imagine his mum and dad are distraught their son will forever be 16.
"Mikey was such a kind loving and thoughtful soul who cared so much about his friends and family. He was so funny and fearless.
"This money will more than likely go towards the expenses his family now need to pay out, loss of earnings, funeral, headstone etc. anything of their choice. So if you could spare anything we would be more than grateful."
In a statement, Bath's MP, Wera Hobhouse, said: “Our first focus must be the victim and their family. My heart goes out to all those affected by this tragic loss of life and we must do everything to support them.
“Keeping our young people safe from knife crime is a national challenge. Here in Bath we need to step up to this challenge. This will involve working together across the Avon and Somerset police area and with neighbouring forces.
“We also need to get better at tackling the root causes of knife crime by working closely with local stakeholders.”
Chief Inspector Ronald Lungu, of the Bath Neighbourhood Policing team, added: “This tragedy is one too many and it should not be allowed to happen anywhere.
“I hear the community’s concerns about this and other recent incidents and would like to reassure them we are doing everything we can to tackle knife crime in Bath, as well as in other towns and cities across our policing area.
“Anyone concerned about Mikey’s death or who has worries more generally about knife crime is encouraged to talk to officers."
