Attempted knifepoint robbery at East Dorset Post Office

A man tried to take the till from a store at Furzehill

A man's attempted to steal a till from an East Dorset Post Office at knifepoint - with police now investigating.

It happened at the branch on Smugglers' Lane at Furzehill at around 3.15pm yesterday (Tuesday 3rd September).

A member of staff intervened and the offender left the till at the scene.

They then made off in a white Seat Ibiza hatchback with tape covering the back number plate.

The man involved is described as:

  • Around five feet seven inches tall
  • Stocky build
  • Dressed all in black
  • Wearing a balaclava or covering on his head.

No-one was hurt in the incident.

Detective Sergeant Gareth Jones, of Dorset County CID, said:

“I would like to reassure members of the public that we have launched a full investigation into this incident and are carrying out a number of enquiries to identify the man involved.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the vicinity, or who has seen the vehicle described above, to please make contact with us.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who may have captured relevant home CCTV or dashcam footage.

“There will be an increased policing presence in the area as we investigate this attempted robbery and officers can be approached by anyone with information or concerns.”
