Weymouth's been named the 4th best destination in the UK for an Easter getaway this year.

The list, from Airbnb |newtab), has seen the Dorset seaside beaten only by Scarborough, Belfast and Peak Forest in Derbyshire.

Rankings have been compiled through searches for properties to stay in.

Weymouth gets nearly one million visitors per year and Mayor, Cllr Ann Weaving, has responded to the poll:

“Weymouth beach has a lot to offer. There is the main beach which is ideal for those seeking a fun day out with lots of activities, whereas Greenhill beach is more relaxed for those residents and visitors looking for a quieter place to relax. The beach attractions are also situated along the beach such as, the Helter Skelter, Chairoplane, Sand Sculptures, Donkey Rides and many more. This makes it all inclusive for families and children when visiting the beach.

“It’s wonderful that Weymouth has once again been recognised and ranked so highly in the top destinations to visit in Britain. This is great news for Weymouth!”

Amanda Cupples, General Manager for Northern Europe at Airbnb:

“Easter is a perfect time to go away with your loved ones, but we know that choosing where to go, whether abroad or in the UK, can be a hard decision, especially in the current cost of living crisis. That’s why we’re excited to share some of the most popular destinations Brits love to travel to in Easter, to help provide inspiration, as well as a wishlist of Airbnbs in the UK with brilliant value for money."
