A350 CLOSED through Sturminster Marshall for a month
It's to allow for gas main replacement works by SGN
Work to replace a leaking gas main in Sturminster Marshall means drivers are facing a diversion of up to 30 miles from today (Monday 18th November).
Gas company SGN says a road closure's needed because of the complexity of the engineering work.
The existing old metal pipes are being replaced with modern plastic ones.
The A350 is shut from the Roundhouse roundabout to the crossroad junction with Station Road and Dullar Lane for the next four weeks.
Signed diversions will be in place during the works, which have to use other A roads.
Shorter routes may be available to drivers with local knowledge.
Susan Day, Stakeholder and Community Manager at SGN, said:
“We’ve worked closely with the local authorities in planning this work and we will be doing everything we can to limit disruption during our essential project.
“We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating, however, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means once the work has been completed, Sturminster Marshall homes and businesses will enjoy the benefits of a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.”
