The “iconic” Weymouth Carnival is set to return after a six-year hiatus.

Weymouth hosted the carnival for the last 100 years and boosted the local economy by attracting tourists to the area in that time.

But, to the dismay of many, the carnival hasn’t been seen since 2018.

Now, members of the local community are passionately behind the idea to bring the carnival back with Kallum Gethins, the new Chairman and Director of Weymouth Carnival, saying he’s seen overwhelming support towards the event.

The new committee is confident the event will go ahead despite previous attempts to revive the event failing in the past due to disruption and financial issues.

A 90s throwback ‘Nostalgia’ rave event is to be held at Weymouth Pavilion to raise fund for the Carnival.

It'll feature all the original dance, rave and hardcore anthems from the era with DJs playing the original vinyl and even MC Barnstorma - who used to MC at the original events – playing an old school set.

Bringing back the same “spirit and musicianship” from a 90s rave “keeps the originality alive”, the committee added, and helps the event achieve its aim in recreating a proper 1990s rave.

Richard Talmage said:

“People will remember the famous 'Pavvy Raves' held throughout the 1990s in the Pavilion Ocean Room which was a big part of the 90s dance culture at that time.

“It was a privilege to be involved with events back then and once again a privilege to have the Pavilion on board to host these events in the same room where the original raves started over 30 years ago.”

Organisers says the goal of the event is to bring people together for a night of enjoyment and togetherness.

Mr Talmage said:

“Having Nostalgia as a fundraising non-profit event will ensure that the money raised goes back to serve the community."
