Teenager jailed for possession of loaded gun in Birmingham
A 17-year-old has been jailed for over four years after police raided a house in Winson Green in December.
A teenager has been sentenced to four years and three months after police raided a home in Winson Green, Birmingham, and found a gun and ammunition.
The 17-year-old - who cannot be named for legal reasons - admitted to possessing a firearm and ammunition.
When officers executed a warrant at the home on 14 December last year, they found a loaded handgun. Checks confirmed it was live and viable as a weapon.
Detective Sergeant Nick McCullogh, from the major crime team, said: “We are delighted to have taken another weapon off the streets of Birmingham. We work really hard to arrest and bring to justice the most serious criminals in our region. Those with access to firearms represent a real threat, so it’s always pleasing to take live weapons off the streets.
“We don’t underestimate the harm that firearms can cause to communities and thank the community for their help in providing information to us. I would urge anyone with information on those involved in gun crime to please get in touch so that we can continue to take action.”
