A man has been jailed for trying to kidnap a woman and a teenager in two separate attacks in Walsall earlier this year.
On 28 February, a 20-year-old woman was walking on Scarborough Road when a man grabbed her from behind and tried to force her into his car.
She was punched during the struggle, leaving her with facial injuries, but managed to break free and run to a nearby home for help.
A few days later, on 2 March, a 17-year-old girl was targeted on Hawes Road shortly before 11pm. A man approached her and tried to coax her into his car. When she refused, he attacked and sexually assaulted her.
She also managed to escape and run to a nearby home for help. She alerted the police by activating her emergency call feature on her phone.
Rambo Baeram, 25, was arrested after CCTV showed the same black Audi pull up beside both women.
During interviews, he claimed he didn't own the vehicle at the time and was sleeping when the incident took place.
However, both victims were able to identify Baeram in a suspect line-up.
Sergeant Carrie Stimpson from our Public Protection Unit said: “Baeram had no relationship to either of the victims - they were strangers, attacked on the streets when they should feel safe.
“These incidents were deeply concerning and we worked extremely hard to bring Baeram to justice.
“The women have been very brave throughout the whole process and were even forced to sit through a trial.
“I commend them for their courage.”
Baeram, of Forrester Street, Walsall, was charged with two counts of attempted kidnap, two counts of assault, and one count of sexual assault.
He was sentenced to five years in prison and 10 years on the sex offenders register after a jury found him guilty.
