Two men - aged 25 and 29 - have been arrested after two cars were clocked reaching up to speeds of 90mph in Birmingham.

The cars were spotted in the Nechells area and were stopped on Heartlands Parkway on Sunday. They will appear at the High Court on 3 June.

There is a street racing injunction that covers Birmingham and the Black Country.

Since an interim injunction was obtained in December 2022 and more recently a new High Court injunction secured in February this year, 29 street racers have been arrested for breaching the injunction.

As well as the two arrests on Sunday, eight vehicles were stopped, 16 section 59 warnings issued. Section 59 notices give police the authority to seize vehicles being driven in an anti-social behaviour. 15 drivers were also reported for various offences from dangerous driving to illegally tinted windows.

DC Mark Campbell, from Op Hercules, said: “We need motorists to understand that we won’t tolerate illegal street racing or cruising on the region’s roads and will take action against motorists who flout the law and put other road users at risk.

"Our ultimate aim is to keep people safe. People have been killed and seriously injured while street racing and it’s simply unacceptable to put other motorists at risk in such a reckless way.

“We work closely with our partners on a range of tactics to identify, disrupt and enforce against those taking part or observing. Our priority is keeping the roads safe for all.”
