118 arrested for drink or drug driving in first two weeks of January across the West Midlands
West Midlands Police said this time of year is worst for the offence
West Midlands Police revealed 118 people were arrested for drink or drug driving offences in the first two weeks of December.
They have rolled out Operation Limit which runs throughout December. It is focused around the 'fatal five' which includes drink and drug driving.
They said the offences increase at this time of year because of the festivities.
**_"We see the devastating consequences"_**
Chief Inspector Keeley Bevington said: "What we ask is that people make sensible decisions.
"If you go out and drink, do not take you car. Use a taxi or stay at a friends house.
"It still amazes us the numbers that we find who are willing to get behind the wheel having consumed alcohol. We see the devastating consequences because of that," she said.
They have also increased the number of patrols in towns and cities too across the Christmas period.
West Midlands Police said they will arrest those causing disruption too.
"Often we do find officers getting assaulted, or get verbal abuse. It is often down to alcohol.
"You run the risk of being arrested. This can have devastating consequences for people if they end up with a criminal conviction," said Chief Inspector Keeley Bevington.
