Find out who Cash for Kids is supporting

Cash for Kids is the official charity of Hits Radio Pride and following our latest grant round, the charity has supported a number of organisations helping youngsters in the LGBT+ community, including...

Brigstowe (Bristol)

Brigstowe’s vision is a world in which people living with HIV and other long-term health conditions live long and healthy lives, free from poverty, stigma, prejudice and discrimination. They support a number of families and children living with HIV. £1,200 from Cash for Kids will help those families struggling to make ends meet in the current cost of living crisis by funding travel, clothing and food. This includes baby formula to support new mothers living with HIV who are encouraged not to breastfeed.

“We were so grateful to be able to receive these grants from Cash for Kids, and our clients used the money for an array of different things. One of our clients used the money to get brand new football boots for her children, who she has recently been able to re-unite with following a family reunion – she really valued being able to spoil them. Another mother had struggled after Christmas, and told me it was no nice to have a bit of extra cash to ensure that she can make sure they have enough food without having to worry too much. We’re so thankful to Cash for Kids.”

The Kite Trust (Cambridgeshire & Peterborough)

The Kit Trust aim to create an inclusive society where LGBTQ+ young people are healthy, successful and celebrated. Their work supports the wellbeing and creativity of LGBTQ+ young people in Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and surrounding areas through information, support and groups. Cash for Kids has granted £2,000 to fund two residentials for youngsters.

“Thank you so much for the grant from Cash for Kids – this is going towards our summer camp for LGBTQ+ 11-17 year olds later this year. These spaces give LGBTQ+ young people a space to be themselves, build their confidence, make friends and have fun. A lot of young people have faced significant challenges recently through the pandemic and cost of living crisis, and so these residential experiences can really be life changing!”

Hart Gables (Teesside & County Durham)

Hart Gables is a support service for those who identify as LGBTQ+ across Teesside and East Durham. The organisation work to ensure that all LGBTQ+ people are given equal life chances and have services that meet their needs. This is done through supporting the local community, working with partner organisations and delivering award winning awareness training across the UK. Cash for Kids has granted them ÂŁ1,920 to deliver drama workshops and healthy meal cooking sessions in Stockton and Hartlepool.

“The funding you have granted us will give our young people an opportunity to grow in confidence through the drama workshops, learning new skills in a safe environment, learning different ways to communicate whilst having fun and strengthening friendships within the group. The drama workshops may allow gender diverse and gender questioning individuals to really explore themselves through pretending to be different characters. The cooking will ensure that no one goes hungry and that they will be able to join in fully with the sessions we have planned.”

Jack Cummings, Hart Gables

During our last Mission Christmas appeal, Cash for Kids also provided gifts to a number of organisations supporting LGBT+ youngsters including Humankind in the North East and the Young Person’s Advisory Service in Liverpool. These are young people living in poverty who would potentially wake up to nothing on Christmas Day.
