Last updated 6th Oct 2024
The team behind Cornwall Pride say yesterday's event in St Ives was an 'amazing way' of celebrating winning the Community Organisation prize at this year's National Diversity Awards.
They say they're 'overwhelmed by the love and the truly incredible 90,000 nominees' supporting people across the UK.
Judges described them as a movement of safer spaces, fostering inclusivity and support across the region.
From the charity, Matthew Kenworthy Gomes, who is their CEO, told us: "We're just absolutely over the moon and pretty much speechless in winning this award.
"It's not just Cornwall's but it's any Pride's first ever National Diversity Award - and we're super excited to be sharing that with everyone."
St Ives Pride is just one of a number of events organised over the year by the team at Cornwall Pride - and was in fact the last one of 2024.
They said: "We are overwhelmed by the love and all the truly incredible 90,000 nominees supporting people across the UK! The shortlisted and all the finalists!
What a truly memorable moment for Cornwalls journey on Inclusion. A true reflection on all the beautiful work going on across our region!
"A huge thank you to all our Volunteers, Trustees, Team, Partners and Funders, with you, we are making huge change happen in our Cornwall. And thank you Cornwall for showing the world how wonderful our people are!
"Kernow Bys Vyken! Onen Hag Ole! Gooth Kernow!"
