MAFS UK set to 'feature first lesbian couple' for 2022 series

Following the success of Matt and Daniel in 2021

After Married At First Sight UK bosses decided to copy the format from hugely popular show Married At First Sight Australia last year, the 2021 series was one of the most popular yet, featuring couples like Tayah and Adam, Daniel and Matt and Luke and Morag.

And whilst we are all currently hooked on the lives of the Australian cast, new details are emerging about the upcoming 2022 series of MAFS UK, and it sounds like it's going to be amazing!

According to new reports, the upcoming series is going to feature the show's first ever all-female couple, following the success of all-male couple Daniel McKee and Matt Jameson last year.

Metro.co.uk are reporting an insider told them: ‘Married At First Sight had a male same-sex couple last year, and now they will have a female same-sex couple. Everyone who works on the show is excited that it’s happening.

‘It’s another small milestone for the series when it comes to diversity and inclusivity. The hope is that including a lesbian couple will break down some stereotypes.’

Check out which MAFS UK couples are still together from the 2021 series:

Adam and Tayah - ENGAGED

Adam and Tayah proved love at first sight most definitely IS a thing! These two immediately hit it off on their wedding day, with the pair even saying the L word on their honeymoon.

After zero issues throughout the process, viewers were over the moon when Adam proposed to Tayah for real during their final vow renewal.

Since the final episode, Adam and Tayah have been very loved-up on socials, and the couple welcomed their first child together in October 2022, a baby girl called Beau Emily Aveling.

Daniel and Matt - SPLIT

Despite seemingly falling for each other very quickly, Daniel and Matt had their struggles due to Matt living in Leeds and Daniel being from Northern Ireland. The pair remained together during the final vow renewal, and appeared seriously loved-up on social media, even looking to move in together in 2022.

Sadly, Matt and Dan took to their socials in December 2022 to reveal that they had split, admitting that they were better as friends, and that the split was amicable.

Luke and Morag - SPLIT

It's safe to say Luke and Morag didn't get off to the best start during the MAFS process. After Morag confessed she didn't find her husband attractive, the couple struggled with intimacy.

However, by the end of the process, Luke and Morag had seemingly found a spark, with the pair choosing to stay together during the final vow renewal.

Despite this, the pair confirmed during the reunion show they'd split up, with Morag admitting Luke hadn't phoned her since the process ended. However, Luke later said it was because Morag still didn't care for him.

Marilyse and Franky - SPLIT

These two shocked viewers during the final vow renewal when they revealed their true feelings for each other, with Franky even admitting he was ready to move back to the UK from Dubai.

Franky later gushed about his girl on social media, admitting he'd moved to the same town as Marilyse and met her children.

However, on Friday 8th October, the pair both released statements confirmed they'd split. They remain good friends.

Josh and Amy - SPLIT

There's no denying the fact that Josh and Amy had a whirlwind experience during the MAFS experiment. After the pair had initial doubts over their age-gap, the couple experienced a number of fiery arguments and disagreements.

However, by the end of the process the pair seemed closer than ever, with Josh opening up about his feelings towards Amy during the final vow renewal.

The pair have been pretty quiet on social media since the final and during the reunion show they confirmed they are no longer together.

Although the cast for this year's MAFS UK hasn't yet been unveiled, relationship expert Mel Schilling confirmed that filming has begun!

Speaking to Digital Spy, Mel confessed the upcoming new series is "so exciting", admitting: "We are upping the ante this season."

She went on to tell the publication: "Oh my gosh. We are in the process of filming. It's so exciting. You know, all of those love bombs that were dropped in the last season, we are upping the ante this season.

"There's more diversity, there's more interesting matches and surprising matches, more drama that is totally unanticipated, it just bubbles to the surface."

E4 bosses are yet to reveal when the series will land, but we can expect it on our screens later in 2022.

In the meantime, you can catch up on old series of both MAFS UK and MAFS Australia on All 4 now.
