A police investigation is underway in County Durham, after a man in his twenties died yesterday.

Durham Constabulary says officers were sent to reports of a disturbance at Eldon Lane, Bishop Auckland, shortly before 3am.

The man had been seriously injured, and died at the scene.

"His family are being supported by specialist officers and we would request that the public and media refrain from speculating on the circumstances surrounding the death," police said.

Two men and two teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A woman is also being held on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Officers added: "An investigation is ongoing and the area remains cordoned off.

"The public are asked to avoid the area."
