Pr-E-Mark or Pr-Eye-Mark?

It's one of the biggest shops on the high street with over 380 stores in 13 countries across Europe and America, but the age-old debate continues to be rife up and down the UK about how to pronounce Primark.

Whilst a lot of people think the popular business is called Pr-E-Mark, others think its more Pr-Eye-Mark, with some even dubbing it Primani after fashion brand Armani.

According to the Mirror, a Facebook user asked the all-important question in a private group called 'Family Lockdown Tips & Ideas', writing: "How do you pronounce Primark? (The clothes store). I thought everyone said it the same until yesterday when I heard someone call it Pr-E-Mark, I say Pr-I-Mark. Which is right?"

Well, don't panic because Primark themselves have now given us answers!

Believe it or not, the brand's official website actually includes a page called 'How do you pronounce Primark?'

So, how do you pronounce it you ask?

Primark's official website states: "That's a very good question. We like to use Pr-Eye-Mark."

In other Primark-related news, the brand unveiled new plans for a website upgrade in 2022, but unfortunately, shoppers still won't be able to order products online.

In an announcement made in a new trading update by Primark's owners Associated British Foods, it's been confirmed the high-street giant will be updating their website to showcase all of the items that can be found in stores.

The release said: "The improved functionality of the website will allow us to showcase a much larger proportion of the Primark range and provide to customers range availability by store."

So, although customers won't physically be able to buy products online, they will be able to see what their local stores have in stock.

Now check out who owns what brands on the high street:

Burtons and Dorothy Perkins

Online retailer Boohoo have bought both the Dorothy Perkins and Burton brands from Arcadia group. They haven't taken the actual shops though, which will permanently close.

Wallis

Fashion brand Wallis was also part of the ÂŁ25.2 million deal that Boohoo made for parts of the Arcadia group, including Burton and Dorothy Perkins, which mean the Wallis shops will also leave the High Street.

Topshop & Topman

ASOS have bought this part of the failed Arcadia group, paying ÂŁ292 million for brands including Topshop and Topman. The shops themselves were not part of the deal though, so it looks like they will close.

Miss Selfridge

Miss Selfridge was another one of the brands that ASOS bought alongside Topshop, Topman and HIIT and will also mean the shops will close.

Debenhams

Boohoo have also bought the Debenhams in a ÂŁ55 million deal which saw the company's 242-year-old name survive but all 118 stores shut.

Oasis and Warehouse

Boohoo have been expanding for the last few years - in 2020 they bought Oasis and Warehouse's online element for ÂŁ5.25 million as the shops had already closed.

Karen Millen & Coast

Boohoo also bought the brands Karen Millen and Coast in 2019 when it went into administration and stores closed.
