Brand new Piglet 50p coin released to complete the Winnie the Pooh collection
Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin coins were released earlier this year
Over the past few months The Royal Mint has been releasing a series of Winnie the Pooh themed coins, with the Winnie the Pooh 50p coin released in September, followed by the Christopher Robin 50p coin in October.
Now, another iconic character from the A. A. Milne classic has been made into a coin, with Piglet being the third coin in the series which celebrates the author.
On the new 50p coin, Winnie the Pooh’s best friend Piglet is seen with a dandelion, in an original illustration by E. H. Shepard which reflects the delicate nature of the well-loved character.
Speaking about the new release, Clare Maclennan, Director of Commemorative Coin for The Royal Mint, said, "We are so excited to launch the third coin in our popular Winnie the Pooh and Friends series, celebrating A. A. Milne’s classic character Piglet.
"The intricate design is inspired by the original watercolour drawings, and will make a special edition to any Christmas stocking."
She continued, "Collecting coins remains a popular hobby in the UK, and we see a lot of demand for our ranges celebrating children’s characters, especially at Christmas."
As with the previous coins in the series, they will not be available in general circulation, with the Piglet 2020 UK 50p coin being available as a Brilliant Uncirculated Coin for £10, up to a Gold Proof Coin which is being sold for £1,125.
