Woman's body found following major River Tees search operation

The body of a woman has been found following a major search operation in the River Tees.

Emergency services were called to the Preston Park area of Yarm earlier today (Saturday 4th October 2025).

Cleveland Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said:

"Following our earlier appeal for the public to avoid the Preston Park area whilst emergency services dealt with an incident, we can now confirm that very sadly the body of a woman has been recovered from the water.

"Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this extremely distressing time.

"Enquiries are underway to formally identify the woman and at this stage the incident is not being treated as suspicious."
