Forecasters say flooding is still possible for large parts of the UK, as a weather warning is issued.

The yellow alert covers most of the south and midlands, from 9pm tonight (Saturday 7th September) to 6pm tomorrow.

It could lead to "flooding and disruption," the Met Office said.

The organisation added: "Whilst there remains some uncertainty with exact details, areas of heavy and at times thundery rain are expected to spread north, then west, across England and Wales from this evening and overnight.

"These areas of heavy rain may become more persistent across western areas during Sunday daytime whilst slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop further east.

"Rainfall amounts will vary considerably across the warning area with some locations seeing less than 10 mm of rainfall whilst others see 40-60 mm of rain.

"There is a lower chance that a few spots within the warning area could see 80-100 mm of rain by the end of Sunday which may fall in a fairly small period of time."

"Complex" meteorological pattern

Flash flooding has already been seen in South Wales, with an 'only travel if needed' message issued by emergency services.

No flood alerts or warnings are currently in place.

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Dan Harris said: "Reminiscent of this time last week, the forecast for later this weekend comes with larger uncertainties than average.

"This is due to a more complex than usual meteorological pattern involving multiple corridors of heavy, locally thundery rain revolving around a slow-moving area of low pressure.

"We are keeping warnings under review, and will look to issue them over the weekend as confidence increases, so please keep up to date with our latest forecasts and warnings."
