Wayne Rooney has been sacked as Birmingham City manager, after less than three months in charge.

He's only led the club to two wins out of the 15 matches he's been in charge, with the defeat to Leeds United last night being the final straw.

Blues sat sixth in the Championship table, when the former Manchester United and England player took over from John Eustace.

They now sit 20th, just outside the relegation zone.

In a statement from the club, Chief Executive Officer, Garry Cook, said: “We are committed to doing what is necessary to bring success to St. Andrew’s.

“Unfortunately, Wayne’s time with us did not go as planned and we have decided to move in a different direction.

“The search for a successor begins with immediate effect and we will update supporters when we have further news."

Professional Development Coach, Steve Spooner, will assume responsibility for Men’s First Team matters on an interim basis.

The remaining coaching staff will be required to continue with their duties to assist Spooner.

In a statement on X, Wayne Rooney has thanked the club for the opportunity and said " it will take some time to get over this setback."

First team coach, Carl Robinson, has also been dismissed.
