Two arrests made after baby found in serious condition in Newport

Two people have been arrested after a baby was found in a serious condition on the Isle of Wight.

Emergency services were called to a home in the Newport area yesterday morning (Friday 1st August 2025).

A man and a woman are being questioned on suspicion of grevious bodily harm with intent.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police spokesperson said:

"We were called at 11.34am on Friday, August 1 to a report of a one-year-old child being taken to hospital in a serious condition.

"Officers attended an address on Dairy Crest Drive, Newport, in connection with this.

"A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Newport, have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and are currently in police custody."
