A teenager has died in a crash after failing to stop for police in Handsworth in the early hours of this morning (19 Dec).

The 17-year-old boy was in a car that hit a tree on Grove Lane just after 2am and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four other teenagers who were also in the car have been taken to hospital, with one being treated for potentially life-threatening injuries.

The road has been closed and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has begun an investigation into what happened.
