Police arrest man on suspicion of murder after man dies in Swindon

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after a man died in Swindon in the early hours of this morning.

Officers received a report at around 1am that a man in his 50s had been seriously assaulted inside a property in Westbourne Court, Rodbourne.

Despite the attempts of the emergency services, he was declared dead at the scene.

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody for questioning.

The incident took place on Westbourne Court in the centre of the town

The dead man's next of kin have been informed and a cordon has been set up at the address while police carry out an investigation.

Det Supt Chris Feerick said: “This is a serious incident which has sadly resulted in a man losing his life.

“I can confirm that we have arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of murder and he has been taken to custody to be questioned.

“I appreciate the community concern this incident will cause but please be reassured that at no point was there a threat to the wider public.

“Local residents will see a significant police presence in the area today. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak to one of our officers.”
