Steve Bruce leaves Newcastle United by mutual consent

Steve Bruce has left his position of head coach at Newcastle United after his 1000th game in club management.
Bruce has been with the side since 2019, when he succeeded Rafael Benítez, and finished his career at the club with a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday.
The 60-year old has kept Newcastle in the Premier League for the past two seasons, but the team currently sit second to bottom of the league and are yet to win a game.
Bruce's departure comes just 13 days after the Saudi Arabian backed takeover of the club for £305m.

It has been understood that Bruce's payoff is within the region of £7m.
Speculation is already growing as to who'll replace Bruce going forward.

Newcastle are still in need of a win this season, but there are no easy fixtures in the Premier League. Their next six fixtures are Crystal Palace (A), Chelsea (H), Brighton (A), Brentford (H), Arsenal (A) and Norwich (H).

“I would like to thank my coaching team, the players and the support staff in particular for all their hard work. There have been highs and lows, but they have given everything even in difficult moments and should be proud of their efforts.
“This is a club with incredible support, and I hope the new owners can take it forward to where we all want it to be. I wish everyone the very best of luck for the rest of this season and beyond.”
The club has said that Graeme Jones will lead the team on an interim basis, starting with this Saturday's game at Crystal Palace.
