Two people missing after boat capsizes at Roadford Lake in Devon

Police, fire, ambulance, the air ambulance, coastguard and search and rescue teams are on the scene

Emergency services are currently at the scene of an incident at Roadford Lake in Devon where a boat has capsized.

A number of people were reported to have been on the boat when it happened at around 1.30pm on Wednesday (8th June) at the lake in Lewdown, near Okehampton.

Multiple agencies have been deployed including police, fire, ambulance, the air ambulance, coastguard and search and rescue teams.

Police say two people have been safely recovered from the water and checked over.

Two people have been taken to Derriford Hospital and two more are currently missing.

Devon & Cornwall Police say searches are ongoing and all families involved are aware.

A Devon & Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Emergency services were called at around 1.30pm today Wednesday 8 June to Roadford Lake in Lewdown, Okehampton, following reports that a boat had capsized in the water.

"A number of people were reported to have been on the boat at the time.

"Multiple agencies have been deployed including police, fire, ambulance, the air ambulance, coastguard and search and rescue teams.

"Two people were safely recovered from the water and have been checked over and discharged by paramedics at the scene.

"Two people have been recovered and taken to Derriford Hospital for treatment. Their conditions are not confirmed.

"A further two people remain missing at this time and searches are ongoing.

"Next-of-kin have been informed.

"Those travelling in the group were all adults and believed to all be local to Devon.

"The boat is being secured and the scene is being managed by police.

"A road closure has been put in place at the activity centre to allow access for the relevant services".

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesperson said: "HM Coastguard assisted emergency services partners at an incident at Roadford Lake, Devon, this afternoon (Wednesday 8th June).

"The HM Coastguard helicopter from Newquay was sent".

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 1.21pm to an incident at Roadford Lake.

"A boat carrying a number of people had capsized.

"Firefighters have been supporting the rescue operation alongside other emergency services".
