Rail passengers are set to be hit by fresh strikes after the RMT announced walkouts will take place over Christmas, as a row continues over pay, jobs and conditions.

General secretary Mick Lynch confirmed a fresh round of walkouts after meeting with government ministers to try and make a deal.

The RMT has rejected an offer from the Rail Delivery Group of an 8% pay-rise over the next two years.

Mr. Lynch also said a new offer from Network Rail will be put forward to members in a referendum, but the union has recommended members reject the offer.

They will also be asked if they want to go ahead with planned 48 hour strikes on 13-14 and 16-17 December.

Further walkouts are now planned from 1800 on Christmas Eve to 0600 on the 27 December.

Government ministers and union bosses will meet again on Tuesday (06 December)
