Two brides who were given a lift to their wedding in a police car after their coach broke down near Southampton have thanked the officers who helped them.

Jemma and Sian Batchelor-Thomas were with family and friends when they got stranded in Hedge End on Saturday.

Officers, who happened to be in the area, gave the couple a lift to their ceremony with minutes to spare.

Police said they "were in the right place at the right time" to help the couple.

Posting on Facebook, the officers said: "The brides were understandably very worried that they were going to miss their wedding.

"We told them to hop in to the police car and we gave them a lift in style to their wedding venue, arriving with minutes to spare!

"We wish them all the best for a very happy future together and are very happy that we could be there to help!"
